COURSE 01

Protection Relays – Fundamentals, Testing & Commissioning

Protection principles and hands-on testing and commissioning of numerical protection relays.

COURSE OVERVIEW

A practical course built around the work.

Covers the fundamental principles of power system protection and the practical testing and commissioning of modern numerical protection relays. The course introduces protection zones, selectivity, sensitivity, stability and operating characteristics before progressing into relay settings, configuration and secondary injection testing.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain protection zones, selectivity, sensitivity and stability
  • Understand common protection functions and their operating characteristics
  • Interpret relay settings, configuration files and logic
  • Plan and perform secondary injection, pickup and timing tests
  • Verify trip circuits and complete scheme functional testing
  • Analyse disturbance records and produce clear commissioning reports

KEY TOPICS
