COURSE 02
Instrument Transformers – CT & VT Theory, Testing & Commissioning
CT and VT theory, application and the tests required for commissioning and maintenance.
COURSE OVERVIEW
A practical course built around the work.
Provides a detailed understanding of current transformers (CTs) and voltage transformers (VTs/CVTs), their application within protection and metering systems, and the tests required during commissioning and maintenance.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain CT and VT operating principles, ratios, polarity and phase relationships
- Select the correct accuracy class for protection and metering applications
- Understand knee-point voltage, burden, saturation and CT dimensioning
- Work safely on CT and VT secondary circuits
- Perform ratio, polarity, excitation, winding resistance and insulation tests
- Verify secondary circuits and find faults during commissioning
